When Might Team Coaching Not Work?
Team Coaching works exceptionally well in the majority of situations. However, sometimes it may be appropriate to to carry out other interventions first.
Stakeholder team coaching is exceptionally effective in improving team performance. However, the programme needs to be carefully designed and set up by an experienced coach. There are a few situations where team coaching may not be the best intervention.
When Might Team Coaching Not Work?
For stakeholder team coaching to work, the team leader and the majority of team members need to be ambitious to succeed and demonstrate a base level of courage, discipline and openness. Without these, it will be extremely hard to progress. Teams will also struggle if they have:
- A lack of commitment
- The wrong background
- Been written-off
- The wrong mission
A great relationship and understanding between the coach, team leader, and team sponsor may innoculate and help overcome any of the above challenges. However careful planning is required. The coach’s expertise will be able to judge if the team needs a different intervention.
